A talented young boxer from Swinefleet has fought her way to the top to be crowned the winner of the England Boxing Youth National Championships under 57 kilograms category.
Jayne Bardauskas has only been boxing for four years, but has gone from strength to strength and already has a number of national titles under her belt. The 17-year-old competed in the England Boxing National Youth Championships at the Metrodome in Barnsley last weekend, battling it out against some of the countries best young boxers to secure the top spot.
The annual competition was introduced as a bridge between junior and senior level and sees three competitions take place over the weekend-long event, including the quarter finals, semi finals, culminating in the final on Sunday. Jayne, who belongs to Almond’s Boxing Club, Thorne, started the weekend strong by beating Kaleigh Goodwin from Heart of England by a split decision in the quarter finals, before going on to beat competitor Paige Howarth from Clayton by unanimous decision in Sunday’s final, a win that has given her the opportunity to represent England in the Tri-Nations competition again. On top of her recent win, Jayne will also be attending a selection camp next weekend for the European’s team which is in Bulgaria. Jayne said: “I feel very proud to have this opportunity to represent my country again. Hard work pays off.”
